What is the difference between L. angustifolia and L. intermedia cultivars and their uses?

Lavandula angustifolia varieties generally flower earlier than intermedia.  They are a smaller plant, very fragrant, and can be used for fresh or dried flowers, ornamental, and culinary use (some angustifolia varieties are better than others for cooking eg. Munstead, Egerton Blue). The oil from L. angustifolia is highly sought after in the perfume industry.

Lavandula intermedia varieties generally are larger plants with a higher ‘camphor’ scent.  The scent is generally sweeter towards the end of the flowering cycle.  These flowers have a much longer stem, some up to 1 metre in length.  L. intermedia is ideal for dried or fresh flowers, fragrant crafts, and oil production.  The oil from L. intermedia is widely used in the cosmetic industry.
